Online Education Class

You may have heard about online classes, but you may not be aware of how popular and pervasive they have become. In the last few years, it seems as though everyone is online learning or researching something. The Internet provides unprecedented access to knowledge and education for people of all ages.

In addition to the over 3 million college students who are taking at least some of their classes online, there are online high schools, online career training schools and courses and continuing education for adults online.

A 2005 survey by the National Center for Education Statistics found that 44% of American adults, almost 93 million people, were pursuing some type of continuing education.

Continuing Education Schools

Continuing Education came into existence for adults who wished to further their education and growth as part-time students and was especially suited to students beyond the traditional age of a college student. Generally, the Continuing Education adult student already had an education and was wishing to further his or her education on a part-time basis.

Continuing Education students ordinarily enrolled in non-credit-granting schools for personal enrichment through courses offered by small community colleges. However, Continuing Education studies now largely include credit-granting colleges and universities that offer courses either in a classroom setting or through distance learning.

A number of fields have begun imposing Continuing Education requirements on licensed practitioners of particular professions. The requirements are intended to encourage professionals to maintain their training and remain current on new developments, such as Continued Medical Education. Depending on the field, Continuing Education courses are often provided by organizations that cater to specific professions, and are offered through conferences, workshops and seminars designed for particular professional Continuing Education requirements.
